The
2007 Dales Trail
Report
by Tony Richardson
On
Sunday 13th May 2007 the Dales Trail was held at Kiplin Hall. In typical
Dales Trail fashion it was an overcast morning but it didn’t look too bad
as the 40 cars gathered to commence the run.
After
the customary welcome of a hot beverage and the chance to have a look
through their route books, the participants set off on the 90 mile route, I
was inspired to see many hoods were down at this point and I hoped to see
them still down when the cars returned.
There
was a good selection of cars ranging from a 1935 Lagonda to a wide selection
of MG's from the 1930’s all the way up to the last models to be produced.
The
route took the cars through Richmond, Kirby Hill, Newsham, then over
the tops into Arkengarthdale and on to Tan Hill. The pub at Tan Hill proved
a popular lunch stop and many people came back with stories about the lambs
lying in the pub by the open fire. This didn’t seem to have put people off
having the roast lamb for Sunday Lunch.
The route then brought the cars down through Swaledale and over the
Buttertubs Pass into Wensleydale. This is where many people encountered
their first and only shower of the day. Then it was on past Castle Bolton
and Leyburn before taking some narrow back roads through Bedale and back to
Kiplin Hall.
As
has been the custom with the Dales Trail, the participants then took a tour
of the hall and enjoyed a cup of tea and some cake in Kiplin’s excellent
tearooms.
The

Best

on the day.
