Banger & Burger Treasure Hunt & BBQ
Report
by Dave Simpson
The
beginning
of June saw us out on our marathon bangers & burgers treasure hunt, or
how to transform your low-slung sports car into a cross-country off road
vehicle on a Sunday afternoon. Very well organised by our treasurer, Alan
had drafted out a route of about 130 miles around Rydale and the
Yorkshire
moors of, lets say testing proportions.
I’m
assured by Alan’s wife that the stress factor in their house was at a
high level in the weeks leading up to this event in an attempt to avoid
losing members enroute and in an attempt to just get it right. Well I can
assure you that he did just that and provided a very interesting and
enjoyable day out.
The
route took us in a direction we had not covered in much detail before,
again not an easy task, finding just about every windy road in Rydale many
that I had never been on before and I’m sure some that the mapmakers
hadn’t been on either. Then when we ran out of tarmac and took to dirt
tracks, I was sure my navigator had been asleep, but no we were right on
route. This part of the route certainly slowed us down, if not, one would
surely have lost ones exhaust pipe at least, but with care we avoided the
worst potholes and made it through the forest section and eventually
returned safe and sound.
Couple
this with some quite testing clues to find, the eventual winner would
certainly earn the prize. Example “find where they repair old bangers
would naturally get you thinking of a garage or scrap yard. Not that
easy, try a gunsmith, yes that was the sort of thing we were up against.

On
return to the sec's stately home Kate had the BBQ well lit and Alan got
the burgers and bangers going while we all compared results, with one crew
certain that they had won until good old Neil and Heather arrived and
quietly handed in a perfect result sheet and were awarded the prize steak,
well done to them, or however they wanted it cooked.
Those
that weren’t driving home stayed late and we damaged the beer stocks
somewhat. A very good event, well organised and the weather was kind too,
what more could you want?
A
few more entries perhaps!
Must
do it again next year.
