The Cobweb Run 2009

Report by Dave Simpson

First club outing of the season, a bright sunny Sunday morning, eight sparkling cars and support crew Range Rover what more could you want. We all met up with most crews early and champing at the bit to be off. After the usual banter between the crews our sec was persuaded to hand out instructions and off we went.

Ready for the off with most tops down, Steve's TR5 was the shy one

Heading out of town in roughly a southern direction towards Busby Stoop, (luckily they removed the gallows many years ago), the cars were directed onto back roads in a round about route via Catton which returned us to Skipton Bridge. A left over the river and quick right took the cars up to Sinderby and across the A1 towards West Tanfield. On via the usual mix of country roads as far as Ripon, through the smallest city and out to local beauty spot Brimham rocks. Here it was planned to have a smoke break and regroup in the car park prior to lunch, however in the usual manner to which we have become accustomed on our outings a certain amount of chaos arose as the car park was full and we didn't want to pay anyway, (who said we were a Yorkshire club), so we arranged ourselves around the entrance to a farm lane while we gathered our numbers. This caused only slight congestion to local residents while Ken managed to reverse the midget out of the way a minor delay.

All cars gathered up except one, Where was Neil and Heather? Surely not lost! After a delay and owing to the increasing number of modern vehicles arriving also Steve B was getting hungry, we decided to move on and hope said missing crew would appear later which in due course they did, trust a Scotsman not to miss his dinner. Apparently it was a case of overheating brakes but in true classic car style the crew had fixed it and all was well.

Dinner was at the Bridge Inn near Pateley Bridge which was extremely good, it deserves a mention here that the Hosts had performed under very difficult conditions owing to the Kitchen being out of order and being newly in charge, they were extremely obliging I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

All parked up tidy at the Bridge Inn

By now the day had gradually got warmer and it was a pleasant afternoon, Neil suggested a return via a very classic car track over the moor to Masham were we could take coffee or ice cream as the mood took us. As it was Neil's suggestion he was dispatched to lead the way which was accomplished and we found spaces to park in Masham town square amid hundreds of bikers, much to the delight of our biker members, (yes we have some), they soon disappeared to be swallowed up by two wheelers for a little while but returned in one piece. We departed for our separate routes home from here, and all of the town heard a certain TR5 leave the area. An excellent afternoon to kick of the season I think all enjoyed it, may we have many more.
