2009 Ravensworth Sports Day

Report by Dave Simpson

We also squeezed in our first sports day at Steve and Dots farm. This was an unknown quantity, as we had not attempted this kind of event before. As your Hon Sec I am permitted to occasionally have the odd brainstorm and on a very few occasions come up with a good idea, and so it proved. With Steve's help we acquired some traffic cones, no not off the A66, this was all above board, and set up a little obstacle course at the farm.

Go on Dot, kill those cones.

Test one involved a slalom course and reverse into a box, which was a timed event, of course, the competitive spirit of some of our members took over which provided some entertainment. The reversing test on mirrors proved that we have some members in the club who should have gone to Specsavers.

The girls cheat with 6 wheel drive

Water was involved in the next event, which had to be transferred from one container to another with a leaky jug as you may guess by now more entertainment for the watchers.

Finally the biggest test of all, blindfold driving. Some may say unkindly that some of our members drive like this on a regular basis, anyway; this event proved that there are a lot of passengers out there that have trouble distinguishing their left from their right. The watchers enjoyed much merriment as cars meandered about the field in various directions.  The winner of the,’ being sold down the river prize’ must go to Steve who was navigated by Gary halfway to the northern borders when he was in a position to win the afternoons games. He had to remove the blindfold just to get back to the start line, as Gary was incapable with laughter.

Bin Lardon takes Lord Luckin for a driveBry who now has his car back in one piece won the afternoon and this may have made up for earlier events in the year! Although he flatly refused to share his Maltesers from his winnings.

This proved to be a good fun afternoon although we could have done with a few more entries on the day especially from our ladies who were very conspicuous by their absence. Come on girls where’s your spirit of adventure? The thought of a ladies event conjures up some delightful scenes in my mind.

If you missed this event you missed a good laugh, we might try it again next year so be brave its all-good clean fun. Many thanks to Dot and Steve for their hospitality on the day.
