2019 Cobweb Run
Report by Dave Simpson with photographs by Julie Swales
The start of a new season, a sunny Sunday morning lots of classic cars
with roofs off, here we go!
The first run of the year, we had 16 cars gathering at Thirsk, a
brilliant start to the year. We had a run well organised by Ian and
Julie which took us to the southern edges of our patch via Kilburn up
narrow tracks to Byland and Ampleforth. We weren’t the only ones out and
about as we got mixed up with some noisy sports cars with big spot
lights etc who all seemed in a big hurry, (and I thought that time
trials were illegal on public roads).
However, we progressed through those villages around Hovingham making
our way back across the A19 and back to Thirsk and eventually Sunday
lunch carvery at the Watermill at Carlton Miniot.
New to the club John and his Alvis unfortunately didn’t make it and had
to retire home but all enjoyed lunch and a good start to the season.
Thanks to Ian & Julie for unenviable task of finding new lanes to
explore the Honourable Secretary for collating entries etc and sending
out e mails and so on it all came together like a well-oiled machine,
surprising really, here’s to a great season.
Is that an MG in the background going in the wrong direction or is the
driver reversing all the way round?
