The Ravensworth Run & BBQ

Report by Dave Simpson

An alternative heading for this report could well be The Ravensworth Riot as it turned out to be quite a riotous evening / weekend, I should say here that if you missed this one you missed a great afternoon run followed by a BBQ of unrivalled proportions with loads of wine & ale.

However first things first, several of us met and departed to the residence of Steve & Dot Wardle at Ravensworth to meet up with the rest of the company who had arrived earlier to do some silly stuff with two wheeThen the brain told the body to do something it couldn't do any more.led machines.

Suffice it to say that its quite difficult to fall off a classic car, not so a motor bike!

Take advice Bry, four wheels are better than two.

This was taken just before the ground came rushing up to meet me, Bry !

At the farm we met up with some other people from the MX5 Owners club who accompanied us around an excellent route taking in the army ranges above Richmond and Catterick. A midway pit stop was arranged at the pub in Barningham and if you haven’t visited this watering hole take my advice and have a ride up there, it’s an absolute time warp there can’t be many pubs left in England like this place especially with a landlord like this one. We had been tasked by the route organizer, one Mr. Steve (you will have a good time) Baker, to collect items of country life on the way round and one was an unusual item from the pub, to find out go there and ask Neil.

The route then took us over Stang and down into Arkengarthdale across into Swaledale and Reeth and back via Richmond to Ravensworth. I thought that I new most of the minor roads and tracks over there but fiendish Steve found some I’d never been on before.

A very enjoyable run coupled with the challenge of finding items like wool from a sheep, or a whole sheep, a birds feather, or a bird, which ever took your fancy, I believe a certain member produced most of one or as much as could be recovered from the tarmac ugh!!

The cars were then parked and some meKate erects the tent while in true army style Dave tries to hide until all the works donembers who intended to take full advantage of the excellent hospitality provided by Steve & Dot pitched tents with the full intention of not leaving until well after sun up, in fact it was nearly that when the tents were used for recovering, nuff said.

Silly games came to the fore as the night wore on which got sillier as the wine was consumed I will say no more.

Steve took charge so things were about to get silly, no, very silly.

Thanks must be recorded for a great day & evening to both Steve’s and Dot very ably assisted by Val.

Noises have been heard about doing it again next year, oh no!,

I can hardly wait !
